An essential part of the 1G-FE engine, the throttle motor has a design flaw where its front bearing sits behind an electromagnetic clutch and the motor brushes. So it gets filled with dust from the brushes and seizes in time. This leads to increased current draw from the motor, increased wear and eventually failure manifesting as a limp mode triggered in the ECU.
Regardless if your car is N/A, supercharged or turbocharged, this will happen at some point, if it hasn't already. It starts with only sharp throttle applications leading to limp mode, then normal driving or going full throttle slowly will also trigger the ECU's failsafe. While possible to repair a faulty throttle motor, it's not guaranteed to work and may leave you stranded. The only certain way to fix this issue is with a new throttle motor.
